The company is certified by Transport Canada as a Seafarer Recruitment and Placement Service (SRPS and in turn is compliant with the Maritime Labour code (MLC) 2006.  There is a comprehensive recruitment policy that is contained in company manuals.

Canship Ugland Ltd employs persons in shipboard and office positions that require persons with marine certification and experience. Outlined below are the typical positions within the company and the general qualifications required for these positions.

Shipboard Positions

We recruit marine personnel to fill a variety of positions on the vessels. These include the following:

Candidates for these positions must hold an appropriate Transport Canada certificate of competency, STCW Endorsement, and tanker certification.

We have a comprehensive officer cadet program for training Deck Officers and Marine Engineers. Both Nautical Science and Marine Engineering cadets are employed on the company vessels to acquire their sea service required for the respective program and graduation. Graduates from these programs are employed on the company vessels as junior officers and promoted through the ranks. Many of the company’s officers including those in senior ranks have followed the company cadet program.

In addition to the cadet programs we work closely with the Marine Institute to train Bridge Watch Rating and Marine Diesel Mechanics students. Many of these graduates are now employees with the company’s. More information of these programs is available from the Marine Institute

Canship Ugland Ltd. also works closely with the College of the North Atlantic (CONA) to place on our vessels, students from the Electrical Engineering Technology and Marine Cooking programs. Similar to the Marine Institute students many of the CONA students are employees on the company vessels.

For these positions the company recruits candidates from a variety of disciplines such as Deck and Engineering Officers, Naval Architects, Engineers, Human Resources, Purchasing, and Accounting. The company also employs students in the above areas to complete work terms for their respective programs of study.

Canship Ugland Limited is a Newfoundland ship management company certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISM. Our company is presently managing four shuttle tankers, two firefighting/escort tugs, three pilot boats, and one ore-bulk-oil carrier.
